MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. took a personal approach on Saturday, urging stronger child protection efforts by stating he was speaking not just as their president, but “as a father.”
He issued the call following a series of recent student-related tragedies.
According to Marcos, no parent should have to fear sending their child to school or worry that they might not return home safely.
“Today, I speak not only as president, but also as a father, as a fellow Filipino, and as someone who is deeply concerned about the safety of our children,” the chief executive said in his latest vlog.
The president cited the fatal shooting involving students in Tacloban City, two separate stabbings inside schools in Cavite, and the drowning of two student-athletes during a team-building activity.
